SLURP was a shared QPOC- centered art studio space in West Oakland founded by Claire Staples and Ginger Sofina Espice in 2016. In that time it provided affordable studio space to a number of Oakland artists and musicians, hosted two gallery shows, and was a creative safe space for gathering. Claire worked to transform the space from an open cinderblock room: building gallery walls, partitions, and storage space to make 8 studio spaces. In 2020 Maya Songbird joined the space and Claire remodeled to accommodate Maya's Magic Shop. Maya hosted Block Parties out of Slurp engaging the whole neighborhood with a larger queer community.
